It's October...be aware!

Guess what? It's October!!!

Now that I'm working retail (again), that means it's Christmas! But for the rest of you...

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! I'm sure most of us know someone in our family or among friends who has had breast cancer. It's unfortunately a really common type of cancer. On the plus side, we seem to have a lot of women (and men!) who seem to be able to kick its butt with the help of professional medical staff, friends and family's support, and a great attitude (and prayer, in my personal opinion).

There are plenty of ways to get involved with supporting breast cancer research and those battling breast cancer itself. When my former mother in law had her mastectomy, there was a local group that sewed special pillows to help pad sore areas while healing. These were provided for free by the hospital. What a neat, fun, and helpful idea! I know I have a lot of creative friends and family!

Recently, my hubby shared this video with me. At first it seems like a regular testosterone-fueled silly post about how men are obsessed with breasts, but it has a really good message in there. Check it out!

It's also domestic abuse awareness month.

Guys, this is pretty near and dear to my heart. This is a little harder to support because not everyone is ready to be helped, but there are great places where you can volunteer. There's also this REALLY COOL apparel website that sells tee shirts for causes. I always think the designs are pretty, and they donate to different charities. It's called Sevenly. It's not always domestic awareness where the money goes, but I bet you might find something you'd like to get behind for a tee shirt.

I think awareness is big here. It's so often that we just walk past someone without taking notice, in fact, it's cultural normal to walk by a couple fighting. I am the FIRST ONE to pick up the phone when I see something beginning or escalating. (It's a little annoying!) I do feel bad for the dispatcher, but sometimes all it takes for a man is to see that there are consequences. Some of them will need immediate consequences. Sometimes it might be what that woman needs to realize that what's happening is serious and they need to get out.

Unfortunately, you can't make the right decision for someone, but you can be supportive and listen. But that goes for any cause, so I guess if you're going to do anything, support and listen to someone. Choose your own passion and apply.
